You need
(a) A wireless network adapter for your computer (which is a piece of hardware, built into most recent laptops, and available as USB, PCMCIA and PCI cards for computers which don’t have one built in)
and
(b) to take your computer somewhere that is offering free Internet access (e.g. coffee shops sometimes offer free Internet access to their customers)
If its a notebook, if you have Wifi, you can get internet connections when you are in range f connections that are not secure. If the Wifi is not built in, you will need a card. Same thing, if you are in range you will get internet connections. Some places already have free public wireless connections. Lap tops can also get cards from a phone service, and those cards plug in to give your broadband connectons.
