WiMax is a 4G Wireless Data technology.

It can provide wireless broadband at speeds that are equal to most home broadband services.

Currently, Sprint/Nextel is currently testing WiMax in three cities, and has plans to rollout the service to other major cities later this year. As with many new wireless technologies, it will take some time to penetrate all areas of the United States.

Sprint, Verizon Wireless, and Cingular/at&t all currently run 3G networks that are becoming quite extensive. Their speeds run at around half the speed of many DSL connections (and actually faster than some).

For more information on this technology, visit the link I'm providing.
