I know there is speed difference, but trying to figure out if upgrading to the N is worth my effort and money. Trying to determine if it will reach a point farther from my house than my G does.

It may, there are G’s that have up to a mile, and N’s that are for a house, and vice versa. Go for an extended range, wireless N router.

Unless you are sharing data to other computers or devices inside your house, I wouldn’t waste the extra money. If you are strictly using the internet, then you won’t notice any real difference going from G to N.
