I just got a new HP laptop with Windows Vista and it came with a ton of programs installed so I’m trying to delete some of them. Can anyone tell me what these programs are used for and which ones I need? Thanks!
ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
Touch Pad Driver
Adobe Air
ATL Catalyst Install Manager
Broadcom 802.11 Wireless LAN Adapter
CyberLink DVD Suite
HP Active Support Library
HP Customer Experience Enhancements
HP MediaSmart SmartMenu
HP MediaSmart Webcam
HP Quick Launch Buttons 6.40 M1
HP Total Care Advisor
HP Update
HP User Guides 0127
HP Wireless Assistant
HP Help and Support
HP Total Care Setup
IDT Audio
Microsoft Live Search Toolbar
Microsoft Silverlight
Microsoft Visual C++
Realtek Ethernet Driver
Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
thanks for everyone’s help! I deleted these programs:
CyberLink DVD Suite
HP Active Support Library
HP Customer Experience Enhancements
HP MediaSmart SmartMenu
HP Total Care Advisor
HP User Guides 0127
HP Help and Support
HP Total Care Setup
Microsoft Live Search Toolbar

You don’t need these programs …
Adobe Air
HP Active Support Library
HP Customer Experience Enhancements
HP MediaSmart SmartMenu
Microsoft Live Search Toolbar
Easier to turn your question around.
Here is what you need to keep:
Touch Pad Driver
ATL Catalyst Install Manager
Broadcom 802.11 Wireless LAN Adapter
IDT Audio
Microsoft Visual C++
Realtek Ethernet Driver
Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
ALL of the HP stuff is bloat. If you think you will use it, keep the user guides. If you don’t use the CyberLink DVD stuff, that’s fine to get rid of. Live Search and Silverlight are pretty much never needed.
