Does the type of router security you use affect your wireless internet connectivity?

I have heard that WPA versus WEP security can make a difference in how well your laptops connect to your wireless internet. Is this true? If this is, which security is better?

What are the best router settings to get the best internet connectivity to my laptop, Wii and iPod?

WPA and WPA2 are good for WiFi security. It will prevent people from hacking your network.

But, you might be limited to WEP if your electronics don’t work with WPA or WPA2 security.

  • help with this please

WEP is one of the original encryption methods and can be cracked very easily. WPA2 is the way to go, but some electonics (such as phones with wi-fi) may not have wpa capabilites, as well as some gaming devices. You should def go with WPA2 IF you can since it is newer and has less vulnerabilites in security leaks. Your actual connection (once you get it) shouldn’t be different no matter which method you use. The brand of router does make a difference. You should look around and see reviews on the different brands, and types within brands before you make a purchase. I have a d-link, and I can honestly say I RARELY get a dropped signal from anywhere in the house. We have 4 ipods, wii, laptops, tv, 2 phones, and gaming devices hooked up with no problems.
