What is the best (fastest, longest range) wireless router that I can buy, how much is it, and where can I get?

I am an American living in Thailand, and the Thai Internet makes the dial-up I used to have back home seem unbelievably fast and wonderful. I would like to buy a router and have it shipped here.

What is the fastest, longest range, wifi router that I can buy online, which website sells it, and does it ship to Thailand?

Ideally this wouldn’t be drastically expensive either, as the wages I make in Thailand are not nearly what they would be back home.

Also, I have seen wifi signals from hotels, libraries, etc. before that one can access if one pays for it with a credit card. I thought that if I bought a wifi router for my own use, having one that others could connect to if they paid me for it would be nice too since that could help cover the cost of buying one in the 1st place. How would I go about setting up the payment part? Is there a specific kind of router that I would need to purchase in order to do this?

Thanks!

Wireless-N routers from any leading wireless company (Cisco, Linksys, Belkin) can be bought over eBay. Price is high due to it being a new technology. You should also get a wireless N wifi card.

I do not know but I can tell you that the fastest and longest range routers would be using 802.11n (aka wireless n) as they are a newer wireless protocols that has a 3 to 6 times more range and speed then the last wireless g.

However your laptop will need a wireless adapter n, if it has a wireless g or below it will still work but not at the fast speed or range. You can find them for usb ports.

Also wireless n is still in draft so until 2010. I would not recommend getting routers and adapters that are from different manufacturers. As there may be some connection problems.

One problem, A router won’t work without a Broadband internet connection in the first place!
All routers connect to a broadband connection, meaning DSL, Cable, Satellite, Cellular etc. If you have a “dialup” or a slow speed internet connection how are you going to get a ROUTER to work?

Fix the internet speed issue first, then if you want to add a router to use multiple machines and have wireless you can. However, a high speed connection is FIRST!

After extensive research we found that the Belkin Wireless Pre-N router is the best in the wireless router category. People who use the router have found it to be very good and it is easy to install as well. The range it covers is very good. It works with Windows, Mac and Linux too. The best part about the router is that it is able to withstand cellular and cordless phone interference. The speed with which data is transmitted is also good.
