Is useing WIMAX free?

I’m going to buy a nokia N810 and I want to know if I should get the wimax version depending on if WIMAX is free. If WIMAX costs money than I would not get the WIMAX version.

Wi Max is not available in all cities and states since this is a new service. Only selected cities have high speed wireless internet through the cell phone carrier Sprint. It is not free and does cost more in addition to your monthly cell phone plan. Wi Max is similar to Wi-Fi but is much faster in terms of speed and coverage is much more disperse in terms of outside coverage instead of being in a location that offers Wi-Fi service.

It is NOT free, and probably won’t be, since service providers are usually looking to make money, not provide a public service. Think of WiMax as WiFi on steroids. Faster speeds, and eventually better coverage. In many cases you have to pay to use WiFi, either by paying for DSL at home then broadcasting it with a router. Yes, there are times when you can use WiFi for free, but that’s up to the person broadcasting that signal to charge you or not. WiMax is similar except there are only a few companies that are broadcasting WiMax, and none that I know of are offering it for free. Some entire countries are even being blanketted in WiMax. In the US, your only options are Sprint & Clearwire for now, except there are also some smaller regional operators now being awarded licenses as well.

WiMax is a custom wireless broadband solution that is made available by various Cellular providers.

For some great info on the subject check out http://www.wirelessinternetreviews.com
