If you want to run a wireless network, you need a few things first. The “blackbox” is the modem. Use an ethernet wire to (in this order)
1. Connect one end of your network (cat5/6) wire to the back of the modem, then to the ethernet port on the back of the router for main computer. This port is ethernet…so it is not numbered.
2. Connect another CAT wire from the NIC card in your tower to the router, or run the wireless device to the router. All other computers can connect wirelessly to the router. Follow the directions on setting up your router and IP addresses that came with your router.
3. If you need further distance, or have a lot of other systems on the LAN, you can get an access point. D-Link and Linxsys make them. Then restart the computers.
u should have the ethernet cable coming from back of pc..to the linksys 802..(it will be the one by its self)…then u connect a ethernet from one of the 4 or 5 other ethernet ports to the modem the cable company gave u…are u using a usb adapter?….does pc have a wireless connect built in?
do u have the cd for the usb adapter if that is what u are gonna use? if not..u can go to linksys and search for the model u have..and find the driver downloads for itif u cant find it..u can email or message me model number and ill send u a link to the website that has the driver or firmware u need
