how i can configure my bit torrent to speed up download rate?

hi,
m connected to internet using wimax technology my connection speed is 256 my download rate about 30kbps but if i used bit torrent its become about 1-3 kbps how can i fixed this its too slow
i tried to access the default gateway its protected by user name and password !!!!
sorry but user name and password admin is not valid , i think i must learn how to live with download manager!!!!

    usually gateway routers have firewalls active on them, log on to your routed and allow all applications through your firewall, i had the same problem and now my speed is like 350kb/s

    The usual default gateway user name and password are both admin. Try that, then forward ports to bittorrent and make sure bittorent is using that port. Hope this helps.

    If you go to portforward.com, there is a listing of most all routers. Find your model and then you will be taken to a screen of programs. Choose your bittorrent program and you will be taken to a guide for your router and program:
    http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

    The guide will list the password for your router.
