How can I improve my wireless connection on my home PC?

I live in a shared house with 4 other people, we all have the same wireless internet connection. The hub is downstairs, it used to work reasonably fast but now it just so slow and im getting 1 bar all the time.

I have a belkin wireless usb, How can I make my connection quicker?
