Can you set the amount of usage a wireless router puts out? I have a d-link ~n router, i am sharing my internet over a wireless connection with my brother. I have Cable internet, which is usually fast, unless he is connected at the same time. It drags down my ability for speed. Can you set how much of the resources he uses? Not with that router you can’t.
Yes. there are a few ways. You can do this by setting the times of day that it allows users to connect to the internet. Some Routers allow you to restrict bandwidth to certain IP addresses. However you are probably not going to be able to set hard limits for total kilobytes transferred unless you are using a specific type of business router.
One thing you may consider is provisioning. Look in your routers user manual to see if this is an available option. It allows you to determine the amount of bandwidth he gets at any one time. However, you should do this for your computer also.
I doubt you’d be able to set limits based percentage or amount of data on any D-Link router. Your best bet is to set time restrictions for an ip address if he’s using a different computer.
