How do i make my Xbox live get a better connection on a wireless conncetion?

My service provider is BT, my internet connection on my computer is quite fast.
i have the home-hub (white one), and my xbox also has a wireless adaptor, however my router(homehub) is quite far so i cannot have wired.
i heard something called ports which help get a better connection
can someone teach me what to do to get it in the right port

Don’t need port forwarding – remove any port forwarding.

Set MTU to 1500 and Enable UPnP. Set XBox network to automatic. That gives the best connection.
