I am a student in a University. My only way of connecting to the internet is through my University’s WIFI (Wireless Internet).
In the past, I can download files through Azureus (Torrent) and Limewire (P2P). However, yesterday, the school did some upgrading on the system. When I tried using Azureus and Limewire, it no longer connects.
I just want to know if there are ways to make these programs work using my University’s WIFI system, which as it seems, blocks them from connecting. Thank you very much!
I don’t think so… I’m sure they have software that detects the P2P and BitTorrent protocols and blocks them all.
They upgrade the system by installing a firewall. The firewall close all ports except http, https, and maybe FTP. The softwares using certain port for sharing things. Using WiFi still doesn’t work because they go through the firewall.
There is nothing you can do about it!
If they blocked them, there is no way to get around that unless you know specifically which ports are still open (if any). They blocked it because it was taking up a lot of bandwidth.
They are blocking the ports that filesharing programs use. They are going that route because they don’t want sued.
Unless the program lets you use non-standard ports you are out of luck.
