I use a wireless connection that runs off a 802.11B (I think) connection. I know for sure that my Xbox 360 runs off the 802.11B and Xbox Live is very hard to play due to the choppy gameplay. I have been researching and Xbox says due to my 802.11B connection on my Xbox 360, my gameplay is unbearable to play. How would I go about upgrading it to a 802.11G or A connection? What would I need and how much would it cost?
By the way: I have Cox Communications as my Internet provider and use Linksys.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for all of your help! I plan on looking at new routers tommorow!

Can someone explain exactly how I would connect two wireless routers to one cable modem? I want to run two different networks and adding a second IP is not an option. One router is a Linksys WRT54GS (which will run 802.11G) and the other is a D-Link DIR-615 (which will run 802.11N). I also have a D-Link 10/100 router/switch that can be used if needed.
I should mention that I’m new to wireless networking so the more detail the better.

Thanks.
I want to run 802.11n because I’m too far away from the current “G” network. The signal drops quite a bit and sometimes I’m connected but the router doesn’t respond. Also the other user doesn’t want to pony up for an 802.11n card for his laptop (he is much closer to the “G” router anyhow).
Until the other user wants to buy an 802.11N card, I will have to run two networks. 802.11G is just not cutting it for me (3 walls and 150+ ft away). For some reason the “G” router decides to stop responding at least a few times a day. Sometimes the signal is dropped completely and other times I’m still connected but receiving no data packets back. I’ve been playing WoW online and I get booted all the time. Everything I’ve read leads me to believe that 802.11N should resolve most of my problems – range and stability mostly. Again though, until he want’s to get a new wifi card, I think I’m stuck running a G and an N network… :(
Thanks to all that responded. As it turned out, the new D-Link router can broadcast all signals at once (802.11B/G/N). So there was no need to set up two networks.

I have a Belkin WURE repeater with a D-Link high-gain omnidirectional antenna. I’d like to set this up so I can connect back to MY network (printers, internet, file-sharing) when I’m over at the neighbor’s house (probably 500-1000 feet) visiting…quite often since I’ve been building a nature trail with them. Maybe even use it to extend WiFi from their house to a camping platform we built (planning to camp out and watch movies some time, WiFi would be an extra). I know I can get the distance but I only recieve it at about 25-30% strength maximum.

My question is whether it would be better to use 802.11g mode (default) or 801.11b mode to achieve the maximum clarity over the distance.

I’m at a loss, I’ve read that G has crosstalk interference handeling but B is slower so I think it may perform better (hearing larger percentage of packets).

Previously, I’d found that B is less friendly with 2.4GHz cordless phones although it can work and G just stops working with the phone on.
Yep, it’s signal not speed. I guess the bigger question is which mode should work best at lowest signal…

I can “see” the network all the way down to 12% strength but it only connects above 20% and packet loss makes it unusable until 30% in G mode.

Trial-and-error takes a while but works…just hoping to find someone with a techie explaination of what should be best :)

I recently repaired an older pc (sony vaio pcvrs530g desktop) to use as my own personal computer. It’s a bit on the slow side but it’s a work in progress. I’m slowly upgrading it as I can. Since it only has LAN and modem ports, I bought a belkin F6D4050 USB 2.0 wireless adapter to gain internet access. But I’ve noticed that my internet is slow, too slow. The belking adapter is running on 802.11d at 54mbps. The wireless router I have is an 802.11g. The HP desktop the router is connected to by a lan line is showing 400mbps. Is there a way to improve the sony’s internet capabilities to reach the 400mbps? Is there a way to manually change the adapter from the D to a G to improve performance?
